Watching your first born hug, snuggle, kiss, love, and welcome your second is a feeling like none other. You worry, before baby number 2 makes their debut, about how you’ll ever love like you did with your first. You worry how your first will react to the sudden change in their content little world. And if you’re anything like I was, you worry about a thousand more things before you lay eyes on your second. And then you have them in your arms and instantly feel your heart swell to twice the size it was before. And then it grows again once you see a sibling bond form tighter than you could have hoped.
Now, is every single day photographic bliss, with the new big sibling adoring their new brother or sister… haha… heck no! But when it’s good, mamas, it is so overwhelmingly good. There are bumps, for everyone, while adjusting to a family growing by another tiny life. That’s expected. What’s not expected is how much a heart can actually hold. (I’ll stop being so sappy now… but it’s true and every time I get to document it, I relive those early days myself and there is so much joy.)
Older siblings get a lot of attention from me, the minute I walk through the doors for the family’s in home newborn session. They’ve earned it. Their worlds got turned upside down, ready or not. So when I arrived to this gorgeous and welcoming home, I sat right down by big brother and watched some Trolls with him, explaining that Branch (I heart you JT) was my favorite but that Princess Poppy was pretty cool too. I don’t usually lay eyes on the newborn until older siblings, and family pets, know that I’m there for them too.
When everyone is comfortable, moments happen naturally. I believe that and it’s pretty clear to see that this new big brother is more than comfortable in his new role – best bud, protector, fun loving/bed jumping toddler.
The connection and love that everyone shared that day, which included some incredibly sweet photos with grandma, was all so perfect. There was beautiful quiet and wonderful chaos. Nothing beats that.
Sending all of the best to this amazing family. Have fun loving and chasing those boys as they grow.
