Some sessions just flow. The light cooperates, the location does exactly what you hoped it would, and the person in front of your camera already knows who she is. Avery’s session at North Park was all of that, start to finish.
I’ve had the privilege of photographing Avery’s family for years now. Watching her grow up and then step in front of my camera as a rising high school senior — that’s the kind of full-circle moment that reminds me why I do this work. These aren’t just portraits. They’re a chapter. And this one is a really good one.
Avery is a cheerleader, and it shows — not in any performative way, but in the kind of confidence that makes the camera forget it’s a camera. She was natural, relaxed, and completely herself. That ease is something I love guiding people toward, and it’s also something you just can’t manufacture. Avery brought it with her.
We spent her session at North Park, which is one of those locations that does the heavy lifting without getting in the way. Simple, green, beautiful light. The whole point was her — her personality, her presence, the way she fills a frame — and that’s exactly what we got.
Her wardrobe was a perfect match for everything we were working with. Each outfit felt like her, and it showed in every single frame.
